SQUAMISH, BC

I feel like I should write something specifically for Squamish and its area. I owe a lot to this place. More than you could think. More than I could think before I moved here a year ago. Despite nature, the energy, vibes, people, everything is so much different here. Comparing to Slovenia, the little country that I grew up in.

Squamish is located in the famous Sea To Sky district, about an hour away, driving North from Vancouver on Highway 99.

Squamish marks many people’s personal paradise, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean on one side and endless mountains everywhere else, along with breathtaking views, secret and not so secret waterfalls, sparkling rivers, provincial parks, and beautiful mysteries of Howe Sound.

The variety of mountain biking and hiking trails and endless possibilities of climbing routes it’s absolutely incredible. Surfing at the ocean, backcountry or heliskiing in the winter, golfing, base jumping and more and more. They say is a huge playground for big kids. If you’re a sporty person, who loves nature… that’d be the perfect place. Honestly, the only thing that I would complain about here it’s rain. Rains in Squamish almost all the time (not as much around August and September), but mostly through the year. But that’s the reason, everything is so green and beautiful, filled with so much forest and rivers.

And there’s way more! Just 45-minute drive away (continue driving on Highway 99), there’s Whistler! See, Squamish is a community-driven town. Families and backcountry sports lovers come here to enjoy the peaceful vibe.

But, Whistler it’s a completely different story. There are tons of events happening all the time, clubs open every night, people are so friendly and easy going. You’ll meet everyone from everywhere, partying in Whistler, trust me. It’s a very international town. Absolutely stunning nature, beautiful lakes etc. But in my opinion, the best part is snowboarding. Some people like resorts or parks, backcountry or heli-skiing. Well, there’s everything. Its location is way northern than Vancity or Squam, that’s why, during the winter – it’s snowing there almost every day.

I feel like most of my photography is strongly influenced by a place I call home. Squamish has brought out the best of me.
